About Us
The Shearer Ranches are all working cattle ranches. The cowboy heritage runs strong in the Shearer family. We have been in the cattle business since the middle 1800s when George Shearer started ranching in Texas. Shearer's Cow Creek Ranch is a family owned Working Cattle Ranch in Western South Dakota, that has grown and progressed with the times into more than just a cow business. We have been guiding for Merriam Turkeys since 1985. Our success rate is over 98% on the first bird. Our turkey hunt is a 3 day hunt with a guide who can help you with the calling or point you in the right direction and pick you up later. Meals are good ranch cooking. Lodging is in our ranch bunkhouse just 50' from the Cheyenne River. The spring season normally opens on the second Saturday in April and lasts for 6 weeks. The fall turkey season is October and November. The archery hunt is a semi-guided hunt that last 6 days in very rugged river breaks and cedar trees. We will guide you over the ranch on your arrival. Most of our hunting is done from blinds. We will show you where most of the traffic is and help you find the right blind and area and help you get set up to have the best opportunity for taking a trophy. If you really want to spot and stalk we will get you started in the right areas away from where we are hunting from the blinds and stands.
Land Available
8,000 + acres of food plots, tree strips, creek bottoms, windy draws with cedars, winter wheat, grassland, and shelter belts.
Game Offered
Pheasant: $300 / person per day includes lodging, meals, and guide.
Day hunts are available for $200/ person per day depending on number of hunters in the group. $800 for a 3 day hunt with lodging, guide and meals.
Sharp-tail Grouse & Prairie Chicken: free with a paid pheasant hunt.
Archery Deer: 6 ½ days/ 7 nights semi-guided Archery deer hunts for Mule or Whitetail starting at $1,500. This hunt also includes lodging and if you would like to add home cooked meals, this can be done for $190 extra.
Rifle Deer: 4 days/ 5 nights guided packages start at $3,500.
Spring Turkey: Merriam turkey hunts are $700 for the first bird and $400 more if you decide to go for a second bird. This hunt is 3 days and 4 nights, 2 turkey tag unit. The hunt includes lodging, meals, guide, decoys, blinds and transportation to and from the field.
Prairie Dog: Bring more than one gun! $150 day includes lodging and 200 acres of prairie dogs. We can also provide 2 meals per day for an extra $30. Call for details.
Coyote: Sunrise to sunset, great opportunity for an unguided hunt on 8,000 private acres. Call for pricing and details.
Ranch Vacation: $250 per person per day includes: participating in every day ranch life, lodging, 3 meals per day, 3-5 hours horseback riding, ranch tour, & plenty of free time to hike, fossil or rock hunt, fish for catfish, or just relax and enjoy the scenery.
Lodging:
The bunkhouse has all your modern facilities. The Cheyenne River runs in the back yard about 50 yards from the bunkhouse. It is quite beautiful all year around. The bunkhouse will sleep 8 people comfortably. The kitchen has a stove, refrigerator, freezer, microwave, double sink, coffee pot, and a toaster. It is complete with plates, glasses, cups, silverware, pots, pans, and cooking utensils.
Meals:
Meals can be included, local restaurants or on own.
Transportation:
To and from the fields. Airport pick up and drop off can be arranged also.
